In June of 2014, Harper’s Hut Shaved Ice opened in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Within a week, it was a smash hit with the Sandites and at any given time of the day there would be several people in line, at the tables, and throwing a Frisbee back and forth. Within two months, Harper’s had so many fans that it was voted the “Best in the World” by Tulsa World readers. So how does Harper’s handle such a large following? Our expertly trained employees! Harper’s employees, or snowristas, are mostly teenagers in high school, though all ages are more than welcome to apply and join the family. I’m twenty, and though I mainly work the blog, I have been known to hop inside the Hut and help out during a rush. Some companies just hire you and throw you into the mix. It’s called the “sink or float” approach. Either you excel at the craft, or you drown in anxiety. Before you ever enter the Hut, you’ll watch dozens of training videos put together by our expert producer so that you’ll have plenty of base knowledge about what’s expected of you. Our Hut managers work with new hires to help them understand the processes and expectations, and are very patient about helping you to develop into the snowcone expert you’re meant to be! It’s not just a company for highschool and college students who want a part time job, though Harper’s does work around your class schedule if that is all you’re wanting. From there, you can travel to private birthday parties, weddings, and fundraisers. Once you’ve fallen completely in love with Hut life, you can open your own Hut!
